Alberta professor named to top iCORE post

Edmonton... A top university professor is set to lend his expertise to the province's growing information and communications technology (ICT) sector. Dr. Randy Goebel, a University of Alberta professor and chair of the Department of Computing Science, has been named president and CEO of Alberta's Informatics Circle of Research Excellence (iCORE).

Province matches funding from CFI Innovation Fund competition
Edmonton...Alberta's university research community continues
to be supported by strategic funding through the Alberta Science
and Research Investments Program (ASRIP). Through ASRIP, Alberta
Advanced Education and Technology is directing almost $23 million to 17 priority
research initiatives across the province.
New
leadership, same commitment to innovation and research leads ASRA
into its second decade

Edmonton... As it completes its 10th year, the
Alberta Science and Research Authority (ASRA) will enter its second
decade under the guidance of new Chair.
Dr. Marvin Fritzler, an ASRA board member since 1998 and professor
at the University of Calgary, takes over from Dr. Bob Church who
has served as Chair since ASRA was established in 1994. Dr. Cyril
Kay, Mr. Stephen Lougheed, Dr. Roger Smith and Dr. Lorne Tyrrell
have also been appointed to the ASRA board by the Government of
Alberta.
