ASRA
does not invest directly in research, rather it provides strategic
direction to government on research funding priorities. Funding for research is
available through related organizations
and programs. Details on how to apply to each of these organizations
can be found through their websites.
Alberta
Science and Research Investments Program (ASRIP)
Administered by Advanced Education and Technology, ASRIP is a large competitive
funding program that supports selected science and research initiatives
that meet the province's needs and objectives of assisting quality
and excellence in research, building Alberta's capacity for innovation,
and promoting initiatives of strategic benefit to Alberta. ASRIP
funds research through two distinct funding streams: Research Infrastructure
and Enabling Research Application and Technology Transfer.
The
Alberta
Agricultural Research Institute is the primary agency in
Alberta for funding, coordinating and promoting strategic agricultural
research initiatives and technology transfer in the agriculture
and food sector.
The
Alberta
Energy Research Institute provides strategic direction to
position Alberta for the future in energy development, and invests
in research and technology to enhance the sustainable development
of the province's abundant energy resources.
The
latest institute under the ASRA banner, the Alberta
Forestry Research Institute (AFRI) will encourage and
support private and public investment in the economic, environmental,
ecological and community sustainability of Alberta's forestry sector.
The
Alberta Research Council (ARC)
supports Alberta's science and technology mandate by directing government
investment to applied research and development focusing on energy,
life sciences, engineered products and services, and integrated
resource management.
iCORE
is part of the Government of Alberta's strategy to attract world-class
information and communications technology (ICT) researchers to the
province. iCORE invests in people who are driven to solve fundamental
and applied problems in informatics and directs its support to areas
in which Alberta has the opportunity to develop internationally
recognized research teams. It also focuses on areas in which Alberta
companies are active, so that intellectual property and valuable
knowledge workers resulting from iCORE's investment will have compelling
reasons to stay in Alberta.
