ASRA & Alberta - Support Local Initiatives

ASRA has endorsed the following initiatives in Alberta:

Constructing Knowledge Communities: The project plan involves a partnership with government, industry and post-secondary institutions to develop an innovative model of teacher development that will develop a province-wide network of school-based Centres of Excellence in technology integration and contribute to educational research into technology integration.

SCIberMentor: An e-mail mentoring program aimed at girls ages 11 to 18 who have an interest in science and engineering. The girls will be linked by e-mail with mentors, who include female science and engineering university students as well as practicing women scientists and engineers. The program's main goal is to expand young girls' awareness of opportunities and career paths in science and engineering.

ALTA: A computer connected network of cosmic ray detector systems deployed in Alberta high schools and colleges. Using this and the Global Satellite Positioning System researchers search for high-energy cosmic ray showers. This project involves Alberta schools/colleges in cutting-edge research and physics education.

Science Alberta Foundation: As the science centre without walls, Science Alberta Foundation creates fun, hands-on science programs that travel to communities throughout the province.
